More than a word, aloha is a concept or guiding principle for the way people in Hawaii interact with each other and the world around them. Literally, aloha is translated as alo, meaning "to share or be in the presence of" and ha, "the breath of life". Aloha represents a spirit of camaraderie and total acceptance by removing all boundaries between people and the subject or object of their aloha. The physical exchange of aloha is usually in the form of a hug.
