Island culture is characterized by a relaxed pace and casual atmosphere. Its no wonder that "casual day," now recognized in corporate culture throughout the world, was born here in Hawaii. Shortly after the end of WWII, the city of Honolulu began to encourage workers to dress more casually to boost productivity during Hawaii's hot summer days. This dress code was soon adopted throughout the winter season as well, but only on Fridays. Today, one rarely sees an office in Hawaii without aloha shirts. Every Friday is Aloha Friday here, time to shed the work week clothes and slip into aloha attire.
